Local Martial Artist Set to Shine on International Stage
Pendleton County High School junior Logan Hayslette is ready to represent not just his dojo but also his community at the 2025 World Karate and Kickboxing Championships, taking place in Niagara Falls, New York, from October 25 to 31. With his mother, Beekee Hayslette, expressing pride in what she calls the “opportunity of a lifetime”, Logan's journey underscores his dedication and passion for martial arts.
From Local Competitions to the Global Arena
Logan began his martial arts journey at McClendon Martial Arts in Alexandria in 2021. Achieving a first-degree black belt within just four years is no small feat, and it is a testament to his hard work and perseverance amid challenges. His successful qualification for the World Championships came through a series of demanding competitions at local, state, regional, and national levels. Beekee noted that “Logan had to invest countless hours of training and display unwavering determination to reach this milestone.”
Training Regimen: The Key to Success
Every week, Logan dedicates three to four days to rigorous training sessions, focusing on drills, sparring, and strength conditioning, typically lasting over two hours each time. “I feel nervous, but I also feel excited,” he shares, highlighting the importance of both physical skills and mental strategy in competitive karate. His upcoming dual participation in point sparring and continuous sparring at the WKC indicates his all-around capabilities as a martial artist.
A Role Model for Aspiring Martial Artists
While preparing for this prestigious event, Logan has also taken on the role of assistant instructor at his dojo, showcasing his commitment to teaching others. At just 16 years old, he is simultaneously balancing his martial arts training with his academic pursuits, attending Northern Kentucky University as a freshman through the Young Scholars Academy. This dual-credit experience merges both his educational and martial arts journeys, making him a relatable figure for young martial artists and students alike.
